In the cracks of light
In the cracks of light, shows Apirana, one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most prolific and versatile writers at his best. The seventy-three short poems here challenge our conceptions of poetic form. They are minimalist in construction but ambitious in emotional impact. They burst out of their small spaces like gas expanding in a cylinder and pushing a piston.

The breathing tree
This collection offers 40 new poems from Apirana Taylor. Inspired by nature and mythology, he shifts his focus from the mundane to the mysterious, and with characteristic wit and intensity shares his delight and despair in what he discovers.
Accessible and tender, but pulling no punches, his work assumes many forms and has been included in New Zealand schools’ English curriculum.

te ata kura (the red-tipped dawn)
In this collection of poetry, Apirana Taylor leads the reader through local landscapes, introducing contemporary and historical figures whose lives have touched his own. He also goes beyond Aotearoa’s shores to comment on issues of our wider world and society.
His themes are universal – the brevity of life, the fragility of nature, the chaos of war, and the hopes and dreams of everyday people as they strive for a more meaningful life and a better world.

Kohanga and Whaea Kairau
This book contains two of Apirana’s several plays. ‘Kohanga’ is about the struggle of the Kohanga Reo Movement and was one of the first plays to be written by, acted in, and produced by Māori.
Whaea Kairau is a play about the evils of rampant capitalism and is set in New Zealand.
